Water harps have been an obsession for me for many years.
The fractal rhythms and melodies in nature are not counted in
4's and 8's, but have their own beautiful patterns. Pictured
here is a frame from a video that Sam and I made with a 1
stringed water harp. The water bows the string into oscilation
on its fundamental, and then every variation in waters flow
causes overtone melodies on that string. A waveform seen on
the surface of the water trailing the string seems to be the
pattern of the oscilating string and shifts with every variation
as well. This combination of fractal chaotic patterns tuned with the
Pythagorean order of the overtone series is a recurring fascination.
