For the 200th Anniversary of Mozart's death, we resonated the old
city of Salzburg to the 6 cardinal points. North and south channels
were large stacks of speakers on the Kapucinerberg and the Monchsberg,
a distance of over a mile. East and West were large stacks on either
side of the Residenz Platz. Adrian Belew played from the roof of
the Bridge connecting the Residenz and the Dom. His sound came from
a stack in the neighboring Dom Platz through a series of gothic
arches beneath his feet. Up was represented by 24 lighter than air
mylar tweeters overhead. Down was 12 cement "Cube" woofers underfoot.
During rehearsals a sudden storm released 4 myler tweet balloons
which were later picked up on Chekoslovakian military radar as they
crossed the border. The sky was rendered in cobalt blue brush strokes
during the third act by fireworks master Scheutz while an A minor chord
bathed the town north to south, east to west, up to down. 20,000 people
attended the 1+1/2 hour event.
