Kokopeli is pictured here, sampled from a red sandstone petro-
glyph in New Mexico with my 8mm video camera. The hump
backed flute player traveled through the Anasazi territory as far
north as Wisconsin, as far south as the Andes planting cultural
seeds, telling stories and playing the flute. The KOKOPELI carried
turquoise south to the Mayans and Quetzal feathers north. In the
Anasazi lands where his image is inscribed on hundreds of rock
walls everything is built in the shapes of sound. The psycho-
acoustic dimensions are extremely off the grid. In Chaco Canyon
I've played a flute in a giant parabolic sandstone arc where the
sound travels for miles. Theres no way to imagine this in a city.
