At this moment we are stuck in the downtown San Francisco rushhour. Of course we had not thought of that after our visit to Alfredos Internet Cafe, which wasnt very sucessful - they charge 1000 USD a day to use their live transmission equipement - to much for us. The cheaper possibilty to get online are the public terminals at the universities and libraries, but they are a little hard to locate. With a car we are as stuck as without - the Bayarea is a single huge meltingpot that connects several islands, valleys and cities like Oakland and Berkeley via 7 amazingly long bridges and is completely clogged with commuters. We didnt come across real computer nerds yet, even the guys at a distinguished Apple(TM) store were quite uninformed, a fact that does not fit our picture of the "HiTek paradise" we expected... Our Plymouth has some trouble with all the steep hills and it hates the rain aswell. The next destination is a ANSI terminal in a very comfortable cafe in the famous hippie-hangout Haight-Ashbury... |
